Bad times on Heatherbrae

First, look at this picture (taken from my handy dandy blurry camera phone!)

Sooo, Brody & I began our walk today & I noticed that the next-door neighbor's (Dave) front door was open, but his car wasn't there. I wandered up to the door & peeked inside & was about to call out to see if he was home, when I noticed that the door handle had been bashed in. Yikes! So I hurried down to the sidewalk & called 911 on my cell phone. They said cops would be there after awhile.

So we continued our walk & ran into Chuck, who was in his car heading home. He lives on the other side of Dave. It was kind of a strange coincidence cuz I used to see & chat with Chuck all the time, but I haven't seen him in months. So, I told him about the break-in, then Brody & I finished our walk. The cops hadn't arrived yet. I waited out front with Chuck, who had called the police again to complain that it was taking a long time. I checked on Dave's dog, Blue Dog, who was in the back yard. He seemed unharmed, but was really freaked out & hyper & barking unusually. Poor puppy dog.

Finally, we saw a cop car driving up. We went out to the sidewalk & waved at her, and she drove right on by.... Whoops. Chuck got in his car to chase her down, and she showed up again a few minutes later. She got out of the car, walked toward the door, looked at it, then went & petted the dog through the fence. Her badge said “Police Assistant.” Then she got on the radio & called other cops.  A couple other cop cars showed up a few minutes later & went it & found (obviously) that there was nobody inside & the house didn't look too disheveled. They said it looked like a TV was gone, but they weren't sure what else.

I had googled Dave's name & his workplace to find his number and called him at work. But he was at lunch & I had to leave a message w/his receptionist! He called me back 20 minutes later tho, and I told him what happened & he was upset. But he was worried about his dog & his bikes- but those were all ok, so he was happy(ish). He said he would come home (tho he works in Mesa). I had to head to work, and everyone left except for 1 cop who stayed to wait for him.

Yuck, huh? So, that's no fun & kinda creepy. Could've been our house, too, I guess. :(    Too bad our silly guard dog insists on staying outside during the day when we're not home.

Actually it was a cool picture - I didnt' think it was that blurry. Is that the blind neighbor?

Nope, not the blind neighbor, the one on the other side of us. The one with the cool mountain/bike tire/running dog mural on the side of his house.

Talked to him last night, and he said it happened sometime after he left for work at 8 a.m. Daylight! Scary! & they took everything (except the dog & bikes) - tv, computer, stereos, etc. :(

Yuck. No fun at all. People suck.
Why won't Brody stay inside during the day? You'd think he'd appreciate the nice couch to lay on and air conditioning. Silly dog.
I can't wait to come and see you and actually get to see your neighborhood instead of just read about it.

I think Brody is taking advantage of the nice cool outdoors while he can, before it gets 100 degrees. & This way he can bark at other dogs and watch birds sleep in the bushes & not get the stinkeye from Mozart. (tho they do sometimes glare at each other thru the glass door when she's drinking from his water bowl)
