It's the big day: Melissa's baby shower at my house!
A lot of preparation has gone into making this possible, and we're grateful for the deadline. We've been working our tails off for nearly two months to finish up the living & dining room. Without the pressure of 40 friends & strangers gathering here today, we never would have worked as hard as we did, and it would've taken us another year to get it done, probably.
It was a ton of work. Did I mention that? But now the walls are painted, the light fixtures are cleaned & re-installed, the sconces have cool new blue glass shades, we've got rugs in both rooms, end tables in the living room, new light switches- including an awesome dimmer- curtain rods installed & curtains hung... and Jim made a bookshelf & I painted it for Melissa. Phew. The prepping, plastering, taping, painting, repainting, touching up of the walls was much more work than I imagined. We've got 10 windows and 3 doors in those rooms, plus the ceilings- that's a lot of detail work to get my paintbrush around.
So, apparently what we need is pressure to get our house renovations done. So, maybe we'll paint our porch steps if Barak Obama wants to stop by to court our votes. Or, if Rufus Wainwright wants to come home with me after the concert next week, maybe that would be enough incentive to fix the hole in our kitchen ceiling.
