This is Jim on Monday, fulfilling his end of an old deal:

Last summer, I agreed to get rid of my often unused - but much loved - trampoline in exchange for a garden in its spot.
So, on my birthday, July 24, I disassembled my trampoline from our far yard & re-assembled it down the street for Journey, who was turning 4 (I think?) that same day. Here's a picture of us at our super-duper 6-way birthday party (all of these girls have birthdays on July 20-something):

So, last night we rented a rototiller & Jim spent hours tilling up a patch in the far yard. It was really hard at first, but once he was done, it was gorgeous. And after we mixed in some compost? Even better! Just add some water and some plants, and we'll have a fabulous vegetable garden! So I watered it for a bit, and then planned to put in the veggies tonight.

But this morning the heat wave was GONE. So long to the 99-degree day we had Saturday. Today it was cold and POURING RAIN. Argh. Well, water never hurt plants, right?
When I got home from work, I put on my grubby clothes and trotted out to the new garden. I stepped into it:

Sploosh! I nearly planted myself! My feet sunk into the damp mud, and my shoe almost stayed in the garden while I tried to pull my feet back out. Whew!
So, this was not the night for planting vegetables. Nor tomorrow night, because I'm directing Reel Film Snobs. So hopefully Thursday night - after a meeting I'm attending - and if the ground has dried any - I'll get to plant my vegetables!
Until then, they'll continue living on the kitchen counter:
