Santa says Hi

Wow, I haven't blogged in awhile. Time has really gotten away from me this month... I'll be in LA in less than a week, and then it's Christmas, and then to Seattle for Jessi's birthday, and then suddenly it'll be 2006! How in the world did that happen?

Apparently when you live in a rich snooty neighborhood, Santa comes to visit early. Brody & I were on our walk today & he was standing there, bearded and in his red outfit, on the sidewalk. He spotted us & turned & waited for us to get closer and then said, “Ho ho ho! Hello there!”  He was very friendly. We talked a bit. Looked like he was there at the neighbor's for some sort of fund-raiser or function for middle-aged women who drive expensive cars. I told the little girl next door that Santa was down the street, but she's terrified of him, so she didn't go.

I put a wreath on our big ugly metal mantle, and it looks much better. I also made cute little magnets out of jingle bells & used them to stick the christmas cards up there, too. Very festive. I think we need to get some sorta all-season wreath/decoration to put up there, cuz it makes that thing much less horrendous.

We have a spiral staircase. In the middle of the walkway between the living room/dining room/kitchen. Anyone wanna start a pool on who will be the first to fall down it? Will it be me? Mozart? Possibly even Jim? A helpless visitor? Only time will tell...  (and good luck grabbing onto the PVC-pipe railing on your way down)

Time really did fly. I got an initial rush of Christmas shopping done a few weeks ago, and now I realize I don't have much time to do the rest! I suppose you're all more ahead of the game than I, but if you're not, feel free to take a gander at my updated Amazon wishlist and my new Froogle wishlist. :)

Going to LA on Monday to see Rachel's new place (and help unpack), celebrate Chris's birthday late and celebrate Christmas early.  Jim is leaving for Idaho on Friday to help his mom move to her new place, too. And he's taking the doggy with him.

Hope you're all having an un-hectic holiday :)

PVC-pipe railing? Dear lord...

It is 2004 this year, isn't it? the jingle bell magnets sound very creative. Without having seen the metal monstrosity you could also hang strips of varying widths of ribbon from the ceiling with glass Christmas bulbs tied to the ends. The sparkle might draw your eye away from the metal a little bit and the vertical slash of color and texture (maybe lean toward the velvetty ribbon vs. the satinny ribbon) might break up the expanse of metal. Just a thought.

# re: Santa says Hi 12/20/2004 11:14 AM Joseph (my God-given name, for this holy time)

Is your missing 2005 just an expression of how time is flying or are you planning to skip a year ahead of the rest of us? If you have figured out a way to move into 2006 quickly... let me know. I tend to have better even than odd years. But if your time warp involves a general theory in the compactification of string modification, I would prefer to stay in this dimension, thank you very much.
Ooo, and if I'm the first to take the spiraling tumble, and if the PVC railing doesn't keep me afoot, can I sue your landlord?
