Know what makes riding 62 miles worthwhile?
A big freakin' cookie at the end. Mmmm.
Last weekend, Jessi, Joe & Jerry came down from Seattle and we rode with my friend Jason in Salem Bike Club's annual “metric century” (100 km) ride, The Monster Cookie. It was so great! I was a little (a lot) worried because the longest I'd ever been on my bike at one time was 25ish miles. But the scenery was awesome, the company was even better, there were lots of little cookies along the way, and I did just fine. In fact, I had a wonderful time. It was surprisingly fun, and the weather was gorgeous that day. My sunburn hurts more than my worn out legs and my bruised rear.
So, to cap that off, this weekend I'm doing my first duathlon, at the suggestion (constant nagging?) of my friend Beth. It's a 13-mile bike ride followed by a 5k run (3.1 miles). Maybe some day I'll learn to swim & I can do a triathlon. Well, we'll see how this weekend goes. I haven't been running as much as I should be, so we'll see.
This is my final week of work, and it feels .... weird. Everytime something obnoxious happens there, I'm happy to go. Everytime someone makes a joke or comes by to say hi, it makes it so hard to leave. But I'll still see everyone outside of work- at parties and concerts and book club and movie club and house club and club club and bike rides and runs. I'm not going anywhere.
Also, we've been babysitting Pippen the tiny puppy again. He's big, but still smaller than my kitten. He and Chester are hilarious together. He & Chester & Flint this weekend were even more hilarious. I heart puppies!
