As I was coming home last night, some creature skittered down from the squirrel feeder on the tree, and I don't know what it was. I caught a glimpse of it, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't a squirrel. It seemed to be white with no tail or maybe a pink tail, kind of a big butt, and it lumbered away on the ground, not racing away gracefully into the trees like squirrels do. Any ideas? It could have been a rat or something, but do we have rats? And it seemed bigger and rounder.

Tho, the more I think about it, the more likely that it was a opossum. For some reason, I didn't think that they could climb, but I guess if they supposedly hang by their tails, they have to get up there somehow, huh? I always see them running across the road, or, more often, smooshed on the road. I've seen them in my neighborhood, but never at my house.  Huh.  I don't think they're scary- I just wish they wouldn't creep up to the squirrel feeder at night & steal their food!

Deal of the day: I found big plastic tubs at Kmart for 3 for $11. I love those tubs, especially while moving, but they're always kind of stupidly expensive for what's basically a box.

I think you're right about it being a 'possum. Not particularly appealing animals, but apparently resourceful. :)

Possums have grown on me since I've moved to Washington. If you can get past the tail which seems to creep out a lot of people, they are pretty cute.
And apparently their hair can be used in very expensive sweaters. One of my friends from work got an amazing $200 sweater from New Zealand for Christmas and it was made of Merino wool and possum fur. Apparently the possum fur keeps it from pilling. The sweater was so soft and lovely.

I ran into my first ROUS, er, 'possum in Redondo. Yeah, not so pretty. And kinda dumb. But sweet in a rodenty way.

The first time I saw a 'possum in Salem I was driving home late one night after work and this thing was crossing the street. I thought to myself, that is a big cat. The it stopped and stared it's beaty eyes at me and then ran up a tree. I am sorry, but those things are anything but cute. They are UGLY!
