Our floors are in the process of being refinished this week. Thought I'd share the journey with you...
When we first looked at the house in November of last year, it was all carpet and stripes and lace:

Here are three pics showing the transformation of the floor.
The first is November 2005, the second is January 2006 when we ripped up the carpet before moving in, and the third is the floor this week after it was sanded, but it hasn't been refinished yet.

(In that last one, we've also removed all the wallpaper & paint from the walls)
In other floor-related news, you may or may not remember our big surprise when we tore up the carpet:

A huge, black, oily, wet frightening stain in the middle of the dining room floor. Despite an unfortunate series of events involving Brody peeing repeatedly on the floor in that same spot, making it even worse, this is the stain a couple of days ago (from a different angle):

It's taken a lot of work to get it removed this much, including fans, heaters and sanding. This picture was taken Monday, and it has shriveled up even more since then! The floors were supposed to be finished Wednesday, but the floor guy & I agreed to give the stain a couple of more days to continue drying & going away. It's evaporating especially fast now that whatever small amount of coating was on the floor has been sanded off.
It's just astounding how different it is from when we first discovered it!!
