Bark for the cure

I realized that I never wrote an update here about Brody. We had been waiting for the specialists to figure out what was wrong with him, and they did. Unfortunately, it's not what we wanted to hear. He definitely has doggy prostate cancer. How's that for sad?

We chose not to do chemotherapy or radiation treatment, because those likely would only give him one year, which is about the same estimate that the doctors are giving him without any treatment.

So, he's on pain pills and anti-inflammatories and he gets to eat pumpkin everyday (to keep him “regular”), which he loves. He feels fine and has lots of energy and, best of all, doesn't know his own diagnosis, so for now he's continuing to live his happy goofy fun Brody life. He's doing just fine, and we love him.

I love Brody, too. I think you're doing the right thing by keeping his life happy. He's a very special dog and he's been lucky to have such a great family. And pumpkin every day? Nice! :)

I am so sorry to hear about his diagnosis. But as long as he is happy and in no pain then good for him and you guys.
Brody is a great doggie! I still remember checking on him and the "attack dog" was lying on the couch without a care in the world.

I'd love to see Brod-ster in Boise, too.

Yup, he's definitely coming to Boise for Thanksgiving (as long as everyone slips him some turkey, cuz he's now allowed to be the world's most spoiled dog).

Maybe Gramma would bake him his own pumpkin pie!

It's a bad way to get pumpkin but at least he's enjoying it !

That is very sad. Indeedy he's a lucky dog with such kind mommy and daddy. (: (Do the cats count as brothers/sisters?)

How does the pumpkin keep him regular? What does that mean?

It helps him poop. Somehow.

Oh, OK. Thanks for ruining my cereal. hehe

That's good. Pooping regular is important. Especially for doggies.
