Yesterday I was watering flowers & sprayed the hose on those tall bushy purple flowers by the kitchen door. I put up the hose & as I was walking to go inside, I heard all this popping & movement inside the bushes! I thought things were falling or lizards were having a party or something. But as I watched, the bushes were shooting out seed pods with loud Popping noises! They were flying across the driveway and up in the air and within the bushes. It was sooo cool. I've never seen flower biology in action like that. And I've never heard noisy plants! I wanted to tell my friend about it, but I didn't know what the flowers were called. So I tried to describe them, and then we both were trying to find them online all evening at work. I even called Jenny, but she couldn't remember what they were called. So I went home & emailed photos of them. After consulting with the ever-knowledgable copy desk, friend Jason emailed back & said they were ruellia, or Mexican Petunia. Voila. so, if you ever want noisy, violent flowers, get some mexican petunias.
Went to lunch today with my friend Adam who works at the Business Journal, and our friend Joann who is an intern there this semester. Adam & I were co-city editors at the State Press & we hired Joann as a reporter there. I see Adam fairly often, but haven't really seen Joann in forever. She's so cool :) I saw her some last week because she was reporting for the APME Gazette. She just took the exam to get into law school, because that's what she wants to do even tho she's an amazing reporter.
I saw a cute little salon downtown that I think I might go to get my hair cut. I haven't had it done since before the wedding. But there are soooo many bad hairdressers that it makes me nervous to go to a new one. I really really like my guy in Tempe, but, y'know, he's in Tempe. And that's far & annoying. Not as far as Lonnie in Idaho, but still.
I had to trick the dog to come in the house today. He was sleeping under the bushes & I had to leave for work. I know he thinks he wants to stay outside, but I know as soon as I left he'd be barking at the back door. But he wouldn't come in when I called & clapped & tapped him. So I went inside & loudy went out the kitchen door & kicked the back gate a couple times, to make it seem like something exciting was going on. Then I went back in the backyard, and he was standing by the back gate, looking quizical. Then he came inside. sheesh.
